You ARE your soul

Being healthy is not just about your physical body. You also have an emotional “heart’, a mind, a soul. You can eat a perfect diet so your body gets all the necessary nutrients for optimal functioning. But if you’re neglecting the other parts of you, you won’t feel all that great.

Acknowledging that there’s more to you than just your body, and nurturing those other aspects of yourself are just as important as eating a proper diet. This is where many of us are negligent because we don’t see these “parts” with the naked eye.

Neglecting your emotional and spiritual components will take its toll. Stress, sadness, anxiety, depression, unhappiness, loneliness, despair… These are all symptoms of neglect. And you are the only one who can turn those feelings around by recognizing them and acknowledging them.

Inner Happiness

To experience inner happiness, it’s important to discover and acknowledge who you really are. If you don’t know the answer to that question, it’s time to do some soul searching.

Law of Attraction (LOA)

The way this universe works is, whatever you think about, dwell on, obsess over, you will attract into your life. But let’s put this in proper perspective:

  • Ex: You are obssessing over a guy/girl you really want to be with but they are not reciprocating; they are rejecting you.
    • LOA: you are attacting more rejection into your life because you keep focusing your thoughts on someone who simply doesn’t feel the same way about you.
      • Positive LOA: Focus on how it would feel to be with someone who’s feelings toward you were mutual. You need to think about, focus on and feel the joy you are seeking in order to attract this person into your world.

Positivity

Now considering you likely want to attract good things into your life, it’s important to adopt a positive outlook on life. This could feel like a real chalenge at first as we are all prone to focus more on the bad things that happen to us rather than to expect good things to come our way. But this shows you how much power you have over the events that happen in your life.

By making a conscientious effort, every day, to turn negative thoughts into positive ones, you will start seeing and experiencing a complete shift in your perception of life. The fruits of your “labour” will be bountiful!

Attitude of Gratitude

One way to help you feel more positive is to adopt an “attitude of gratitude.” It’s way too easy to feel disappointed, angry, bored and ungrateful. It’s much more beneficial for yourself and those around you if you start focusing on all the good things in your life. Remember, if all you keep thinking about is how much your life sucks, you’ll just be attracting more “life sucking” experiences. Having trouble finding one good thing to be grateful for? Here’s some examples to get this ball rolling:

  • You wake up and it’s a beautiful blue sky and the sun is shining – BE GRATEFUL!
  • You’re going about your usual routine and you realize “hey, I have 2 legs and 2 arms that work perfectly. I wouldn’t be able to do these things without them – BE GRATEFUL!
  • You’re in a wheelchair but there’s nothing wrong with your eyes and you can see the beauty of the world – BE GRATEFUL!
  • A total stranger walking past you just complemented the hat you’re wearing – BE GRATEFUL!
  • Your job sucks but you have a loving wife/husband and wonderful children – BE GRATEFUL!

Things will never be completely perfect in your life all the time, after all, this is just a temporary, flawed material world we live in. But you can certainly affect your own personal universe by the way you perceive things.

Work & Happiness

If you’re one of those lucky people who enjoys your job, you’re ahead of the majority. To be happy, you need fulfillment. Since our jobs consume more of our waking hours than anything else, they play a huge part in our overall happiness. Many of us have a hard time definining what sort of things would make us feel fulfilled. Here are some questions you can ask yourself that will help you determine your true interests:

  • What kind of hobbies do you enjoy? If your calendar was completely blank and you could do anything you want, what would that be?
  • What sort of things do you enjoy that makes the time fly by? What do you get so invloved with that you forget to eat?
  • If you could volunteer for any organization, which one would matter to you that you would be willing give your time away for free?
  • What sort of things do you consider “indulgences”? Think of the things that ignite a little spark inside of you and make you feel joyful.
  • Try to remember something fun you enjoyed from your childhood or younger days that you had to put aside and forget about because adult life and responsibilities took over all your time.

Inner Fulfillment = Happy Life

True happiness does not depend on anything around you. You can have a loving spouse and children, a good job, a “perfect” house in a great city and still not feel happy. If you are neglecting and ignoring what your “gut” is trying to tell you, you will always feel like something is missing or “off.” After awhile, you may start experiencing anxiety, depression, or even despair. As long as you are alive, your gut will not stop knocking on your door until you answer it. This could open up a whole can of worms from unresolved issues in your life, but keeping these feelings buried is not an option if you want to move forward toward the path of inner peace and love.
