You don’t have to try hard to consume your daily requirements for salt.  As a matter of fact, we unfortunately consume too much every day without even realizing it.  Here are some guidelines to help keep the salt intake at a safer level:

  • choose products with less than 200mg of salt per serving
  • thoroughly rinse your canned goods whenever possible as this will remove excess salt
  • substitute salt with seaweed flavourings like Arame, Hijiki, Dulse, Wakame, Kelp or salt-free alternatives like Mrs. Dash
