Earth Month

April is "Earth Month"! April 20 - 26 is Earth Week & April 22nd is Earth Day! And for those of us living in colder, northern regions of the planet, April is the first full month of spring.  The snow has melted (or is melting), bulbs are sprouting out of the ground and blooming, buds are showing up on shrubs and trees.  It's a time of rebirth filled with hope and anticipation after a long cold winter. But we cannot take these things for granted anymore.  Modern civilisation, growing populations, industry & waste have all taken their toll on our planet, which is why we dedicate this month to pay special recognition to the planet that sustains us.  So, during this month, every year, think [...]

Curcumin – Magic Relief for Inflammation!

Smokey - My Elderly Bunny My 13 year-old bunny Smokey started exhibiting signs of arthritis in the summer of 2015.  By the winter of 2016, the local vet prescribed "Apo-Meloxicam", an anti-inflammatory drug generally given to cats and dogs. Unfortunately, drug companies would rather use rabbits as guinea pigs to experiment on rather than creating drugs to ease their pain. That department is reserved for more common pets like cats, dogs & horses. I was told this drug might help but it had possible negative/deadly side effects (as is the case with all drugs for animals or people). After giving him this medication for several months, I could see no improvement in his condition. But I knew about curcumin as a natural, vegetarian, anti-inflammatory remedy that [...]

Low-Carb Diet – Conclusion

After about 3 months on a low-carb diet, I stopped seeing posititve results on my derriere.  In other words, it wasn't diminishing anymore.  I lost some fat from that area but then I just reached a plateau where no more progress was being made.  That was disappointing so I stopped following this diet as strictly as I had been.  I did, however, lose any fat I had on the rest of my body!  So if you're not particular about where the fat disappears from, this diet will not fail to get rid of some fat. And I did learn a few things!  This diet was probably one of the healthiest things I have ever done for my body.  It made me realize how much of [...]

New Year’s Resolutions

We all make them! and then break them.... Rule #1: make it achievable by taking baby steps to incorporate your plan as part of your routine. Especially when it comes to goals involving your health & weight, these plans require a lifetime commitment and a conscious decision to make the required change(s). If you approach your resolution with a short-term effort as your plan, your success will be short-lived and you will find that resolution returning to greet you with every New Year.  Your heart's gotta be on board with the program because if it's not, it just won't succeed.  But don't be discouraged!  You just need to do some soul-searching to figure out what is really important to you, and listen to your gut [...]
