Herpes Simplex

A manifestation of the Herpes Simplex virus that appears around the mouth area.  It is transmitted through contact from an infected person who is experiencing an outbreak at the time.  This virus resides inside your body forever in a dormant state until something causes it to surface.  People experience these outbreaks in varying degrees.

For some it is very infrequent and mild but for others like me, it has been a horrendous lifetime of constant attacks on the lips and surrounding area.  Nothing I’ve used has ever really helped so all I ever did was apply peroxide with a Q-Tip to dry it out.  It would take two weeks to get rid of, then another one would start…

Prescribed medications only seem to work for short periods of time as the virus always seems to find a way to resist the drugs after awhile.  I am not aware of any one magic cure but the following may be helpful for some:

  • Lysine is an essential amino acid
  • Lemon Balm Tea (member of the mint family): drink this to reduce indigestion, flatulence, bloating and to speed the healing of cold sores: steep for 10-15 min. and apply the liquid with a Q-tip to the cold sore often until it disappears
  • Wild oregano
  • zinc fights viruses like colds and herpes and should be taken with copper which contributes to healthy nerves
